Captiva Island is a world of its own. Folk lure has it that Jose Gaspar, the Pirate, held his women captive on the island, thus the name Captiva. North Captiva Island and Useppa Island can only be reached by boat. North Captiva has a grass air field and can be accessed also by small planes. Useppa Island is located across from the island of Cayo Costa. The Cayo Costa Inn is where Jimmy Buffett wrote the song Cheeseburger in Paradise.
